Our design process
How can a small web design business have clients all over the UK, that have had their sites professionally designed on a one to one basis without ever seeing them?
Well in short we do see some people! But it's not required by any means, it just happens that if the project is very large or they are local then our designer James will visit. But the point remains that the majority of customers are never seen face to face like a traditional agency, so how is it done then...
Firstly the whole process has been geared towards making it easy and cutting down the time it takes to get a site produced. This helps keep costs and, consequentially, prices low.
- When someone comes to FirmSites interested in having a site done they first are advised to call James on the number in the top right of the website. He will discuss with them design choices, what they want from a website and what assets they have to bring to the project such as photography and content.
- They will then be advised what is needed for a concept to be produced. Typically this means emailing the logo and some pictures across. This allows James to work on a design concept while the client gets to work on writing their content pages.
- Once an initial design is ready it will be emailed to the client, they can make any alterations they like (including throwing it out!) and this will go back and forth until a design is approved.
- The design concept will be built into a working concept site that the client can move around, test and again ask for alterations to. Notice that up until this stage they have had to make no payments or obligations. If they are happy with the site produced then it is made live and from then on you pay £30 per month for as long as you want the site. No setup costs have been charged!
Typically this process takes around 2 weeks but it can go faster if the client already has good photos ready and their content organised. Because it is largely done via email there is no need for the client to rush and it can be dealt with at any time of the day. It is simple, fast and above all very convenient as you never have to schedule design meetings or wait for months for the site to be developed.
